Meet Lex James: Artist, Educator, Storyteller
Over 30 years bringing art to life in Australian classrooms. Lex combines a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Diploma of Education with real-world experience as a published children's book author, professional muralist, and dedicated art teacher.
30+ Years of Creative Impact
Lex's journey started with a passion for both art and education. With a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Diploma of Education (BAVA DipEd), he spent over three decades working in Australian schools, showing kids that art is about the process of discovery, not just the finished piece.
As a published children's book author and illustrator, Lex brings visual storytelling into everything he does. From large-scale school murals to intimate after-school workshops, his work lives in classrooms and communities across the Hunter Valley.
For more than 12 years, Lex has run dedicated kids art classes from his Thornton studio, working with children aged 6 to 17. He is also an experienced artist-in-residence, playground markings specialist, and commercial artist serving schools across Maitland, Newcastle, and the wider Hunter region.
